Mats Zuccarello Comments On New Rangers Head Coach

USA Today

While speaking with a Norwegian newspaper, Mats Zuccarello spoke about his new bench boss David Quinn.

Based on translations from the article’s author, Zuccarello said that while he hasn’t spoken to his new leader, he said Quinn must be a good coach, or else the Rangers wouldn’t have hired him.

“I assume his a good coach and can bring a lot to our team. It’s a big deal to get to coach the Rangers, our management wouldn’t bring him in unless he’s good.” – Nitten. No

The veteran winger also added that he hopes Quinn won’t just focus on developing the youngsters on the Blueshirts.

“It’s important to develop players, but this is the big leagues. Rangers are an elite club that needs to win games. Where the Rangers are at now, it’s important to know how to deal with young players too, but I hope he can do both. We cannot just focus on the young players or just focus on development. The players are grown-ups when the arrive at the NHL level. It’s about fine-tuning and giving them an opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them, but also to make demands from them.” – Nitten. No

This is the sentiment that Rangers fans want to hear from everybody involved. These are kids who weren’t necessarily given a chance to make mistakes under Alain Vigneault. With Quinn at the helm, it would appear that the young guns can relax and play their games knowing they have a coach who believes in them. But as Zuccarello notes, and I’m sure we will hear this echoed at tomorrow morning’s press conference, Quinn will be focused on winning games and getting the Rangers back to the promised land as quickly as possible.
