Rangers Roundup: Eye on Panarin, RFA’s, and coaching roles

The latest around the web concerning the Rangers.

Artemi Panarin

Artemi Panarin has given the Blue Jackets a September 13th deadline to negotiate a contract extension. If one is not worked out, it sounds like he won’t discuss a possible new contract until the end of the season. This puts a huge amount of pressure on Columbus to pay up big time money or find themselves forced to trade him as a rental at the deadline.

Panarin met recently in France with Columbus GM, Jarmo Kekalainen to discuss what they are both looking for. We can expect the 2 sides to talk all the way up to the deadline, which is the start of training camp. Should they not reach an agreement on an extension, expect the Rangers to check back in on this offensive stud.

A deal for Panarin would require at least 2 young players off the roster and a high prospect or 1st round pick. Or the Rangers could wait until he hits the open market, risking losing him to another team.

RFA Updates

Jimmy Vesey avoided arbitration by signing a 2 year bridge deal.

Vesey has shown signs of being a key role player for the Rangers that can chip in 20 goals a season, now he has to prove it.

Three other Rangers RFA’s remain unsigned with court dates looming:

Brady Skjei – July 31st

Kevin Hayes – August 2nd

Ryan Spooner August 4th

Rangers Coaching Staff Roles

Quinn – Head Coach

Ruff – Asst Coach (defense)

Oliver – Asst Coach (forwards)
