Finland has beaten Canada 3-1 in the final of the IIHF World Championship in Bratislava today. In a hard fought final, the Finns came back from a 1-0 deficit and Kaapo Kakko played a big role despite not showing up on the score sheet. When down 1-0, he drew the penalty that led to the game-tying goal by captain Marko Anttila.

Kaapo Kakko has done something no other hockey player has done since the introduction of the NHL Draft. He becomes the first player to win gold at the u18, u20 and men’s level before being draft eligible. With the draft only 26 days away the question remains: Has Kakko done enough to be picked 1st overall or is he heading to Manhattan?

Kaapo Kakko finishes the tournament with 6 goals and 1 assist in 10 games. His 6 goals are tied for 2nd most by a pre-draft eligible player.
