Andersson and Chytil Selected For World Junior Championships

USA Today

Over the last couple of days, the participating countries in this year’s World Junior Championships in Buffalo have released their rosters for the tournament. And to nobody’s surprise, the Rangers top two prospects Filip Chytil and Lias Andersson, have been selected to the Czech and Swedish national teams, respectively.

These two nominations should come as no surprise, with both players having solid 2017-18 seasons for their respective clubs. Chytil, who is currently out with an injury, has posted twelve points in fifteen games this season with Hartford. The Czech forward earned himself a roster spot with the Rangers out of training camp but was unable to turn that stint into a year on Broadway.

As for the 19-year-old Lias Andersson, he has had a very good year playing for Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League. Amongst juniors, which includes players under 20-years-old, Andersson, who was unable to make the Rangers out of training camp, ranks second in the league in both points (13) and goals (7) through 20 games. In Champions Hockey League play, which pits the best teams of Europe against each other, Andersson has two goals and two assists in seven games.
