Brooks: Rangers should announce Quinn hiring by tomorrow

Quinn (Terrier Hockey Fan Blog)

Larry Brooks’ latest states that the Rangers should be announcing David Quinn’s hiring by no later than Tuesday.

Here’s a few other notable takeaways from the article:
  • The coaching search was essentially David Quinn and Jim Montgomery
  • Rangers were not interested in a veteran NHL coach
  • Rangers did not want to wait to speak to Sheldon Keefe
  • Contract will be around 2.4M per year
More Insight On Quinn as a Coach

On the topic of player development and patience, Brooks wrote, “Patience will be a virtue for the Rangers’ next coach. We’re told by an individual who has known Quinn for three decades that he owns that trait. Also that Quinn, “has a presence and the kind of swagger that plays well in New York.”

This aligns with what we reported to you yesterday when we spoke to WEEI beat reporter, Scott McLaughlin. In that interview, Scott stated that Quinn is outgoing and honest. “As a media member, he was always great to deal with”, McLaughlin said. “He won’t throw players under the bus, but he’s not afraid to talk about their struggles either. He can be pretty funny at times too”

On player development, McLaughlin noted that Quinn was good at developing players on an individual level. “I think guys like Charlie McAvoy and Matt Grzelcyk got better under his tutelage. Jack Eichel and Clayton Keller came in with talent through the roof already, but I think he helped get them ready for the next level”, McLaughlin explained.

On one potential candidate the Rangers may draft McLaughlin said, “Brady Tkachuk got better throughout this past season and probably helped his draft stock. Perhaps that helps with a rebuilding, presumably young team.” You would have to assume that if Tkachuk were to fall to 9, the Rangers would take him.
