Mats Zuccarello was hit in the head by a slapshot off the stick of Ryan McDonagh and will not return to game action as per the Rangers.

Late in the first period, Zuccarello was battling in front and had the Penguins defenseman leaning on his head. Ryan McDonagh than reared back and let go a slapshot that appeared to hit him flush on the side of his helmet.

After conversing on the bench with trainer, Jim Ramsey they elected to go to the locker room. The absence of a cut leads me to believe that Zuccarello likely went through the team’s concussion protocol.

As of right now, he may be held out as a precaution but more info will likely come out after the game.
