Henrik Helps Rangers Ring In 2019 With Two Points

Following Saturday night’s win over the Nashville Predators, the Rangers were looking to win two consecutive games for the first time since the middle of November. And thanks to a 37-save performance from King Henrik, the Rangers did just that with a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Mats Zuccarello – The diminutive Norwegian winger has been a bit snakebitten this season having entered the game with just three goals and ten assists in 24 games. Now, 13 points in 24 games isn’t terrible, but when you are talking about Zuccarello, who has been at or near the top in points for the Rangers in each of the last five seasons, it is certainly not what you wanted to see. All of that aside, Zuccarello tied the game for the Rangers on the man-advantage, finishing Chris Kreider’s pass across the “royal road.”

Boo Nieves – The 24-year-old Syracuse native is a solid two-way forward that plays well in a bottom-six role. And tonight, he displayed some offensive ability, scoring the game-winning goal on a backhand shot from just below the hash marks. Nieves has made the most of his limited minutes with the Rangers this season, and with Lias Andersson being sent down to Hartford, perhaps Nieves will be able to stick in David Quinn’s lineup.

Henrik Lundqvist – As we have seen time and time again throughout the illustrious career of Henrik Lundqvist, the Rangers owe their victory to their man between the pipes. Lundqvist was sensational in this one, stopping 39 of 40 St. Louis shots, including 33 in the final 40 minutes.

Next Game: The Rangers will look for their third consecutive win, and their first in 2019, as they host the Pittsburgh Penguins at MSG. Puck drops at 7!

LETS GO RANGERS!!
