Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal News weighed on the situation between the Coyotes and Rangers yesterday. SNYRangers posted it yesterday and it helped cause a little buzz amongst the fan base.

Here’s the exact quote:

[su_quote cite=”Jim Matheson” url=”https://www.edmontonjournal.com/Hockey+Work+Short+Shifts+Oilers+should+receive+second+rounder+prospect+Petry/10790226/story.html”]Don Maloney will wind up trading of-injured big-horse centre Martin Hanzal, who has two years left at $3.5 million, to the Rangers because the Coyotes’ GM and his old Rangers’ boss Glen Sather are buddies and they’ll work something out. Agree with Steve Zipay at Newsday that centre J.T. Miller and defenceman John Moore makes some sense, although Coyotes need a stay-at-home D more or another young winger.[/su_quote]

Pretty good stuff on Hanzal, makes you feel it’s a done deal and they just have to announce it. Let me first off by saying, I respect Jim Matheson as he’s been covering the NHL and the Oilers for a very long time.

However, he was on the forefront last year about Nail Yakupov being traded to the Rangers and it didn’t pan out. Matheson also put out the notion that Glen Sather was considering retirement which was met with laughs from within the organization.

What does it mean in this situation? Nothing, Matheson could be simply assuming that Sather and Maloney are “buddies” which means they will play fair with each other and work out a deal. I’m sure they are very amicable towards one another which helps in any negotiation.

Still, it doesn’t mean that Matheson’s intimate knowledge of Sather will yield any fruit. We will just have to sit back and wait until the two sides pull the trigger and make an announcement.

If they make a deal at all.

Hey gang! I made it into a newspaper as a guest blogger! I can’t thank Rick Carpiniello enough for posting my Kevin Hayes piece in the LoHud Journal!
