Rangers vs Bruins: Alexandar Georgiev gets the start and lineup notes
Alexandar Georgiev was confirmed as the starter for tomorrow’s afternoon rematch against the Bruins. Right now he’s hot, having earned at least one point in each of his last four appearances (2-0-2). This is also a career high point streak for the 24 year-old net minder who stopped 31 shots yesterday.
David Quinn also said that Filip Chytil is not yet ready for action. The same lineup is expected for tomorrow. The Rangers hope to continue getting the same production out of their top six as they have in the last few games.
Chris Kreider has 5 goals in last 3 games and Ryan Strome has played some inspired hockey over the last week. He’s riding a four-game point streak with two goals and five assists in that span.
More unwarranted criticism for Alexis Lafreniere
Yesterday’s Toronto Sun pointed out his struggles while citing David Quinn’s earlier comments about “liking the direction [Lafrenière’s] game was going,” and “being the first overall pick he has tons of pressure on him.”
Regardless, emphasis was put on his two goals and -8 rating in 17 games before Alexis picked up an assist and a +1 last night. Again, from miles away scribes are putting pen to paper with what appears to be shortsighted and incomplete information.
Well I’ve just about had it with the criticism. Here’s my full rebuttal.
Pre Game Notes
- All-Time vs Bruins: 260-294-97-4 (150-125-55-1 at home; 110-169-42-3 on the road)
- Alexandar Georgiev – 5 GP, 2-2-1, 2.73 GAA, .914 SV% – Georgiev has helped the Rangers earned at least one point in each of his two appearances against the Bruins this season.
- Mika Zibanejad – 32 GP, 12-5-17 – Zibanejad’s 12 goals against the Bruins are tied for the most he has registered against one opponent in his NHL career. He has tallied six goals/points in the last nine games against the Bruins. In addition, Zibanejad has notched a point in 11 of his last 19 games against Boston (10 goals, three assists).
- Ryan Strome – 21 GP, 4-8-12 – Strome has registered an assist/point in five of the last seven games against the Bruins (two goals, seven assists), and he has posted a multi-point game in three of those seven contests. In addition, he has recorded 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in his last 13 games against the Bruins.
- The Rangers rank ninth in the NHL in shots on goal per game in 2020-21 (31.5). The Rangers have posted a plus-40 shot differential this season, which is the eighth-best in the NHL.
- The Rangers have held their opponents to two goals or fewer in seven of the last 10 games (including two goals or fewer in regulation in eight games) and in eight of the last 12 games. The Blueshirts have allowed 2.61 goals against per game in 2020-21, which is the seventh-fewest in the NHL.
- The Rangers were 3-for-3 (6:00) on Feb. 26 vs. Boston.
- The Blueshirts have not allowed a power play goal in nine of their last 11 games (40-for-43; 93.0%), including three of the last four games (18-for-20; 90.0%).
