Pair of New York Rangers college prospects win some weekly honors
Two New York Rangers college prospects are being recognized for their recent accomplishments. Gabe Perreault of the Boston College Eagles was named Hockey East “Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week” for the second time this season.
Meanwhile, Noah Laba of the Colorado College Tigers was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Forward of the Week.

New York Rangers Prospects Awarded
Gabe Perreault (Freshman)
The 2023 first-round pick had two multiple point games against the University of Maine Black Bears over the weekend, collecting two assists on Friday, before scoring a goal and an assist on Saturday. He also converted on his shootout attempt in a must-score situation to help the Boston College Eagles pick up two standings points.
Through ten games played, the United States National Team Development Program alum leads his team in assists with thirteen, and his fifteen points are also the best on the team. Those totals are good for second nationally in assists, and tied for third in points, which should garner recognition later in the year for the Hobey Baker Award if he can continue his scoring pace.
The New York Rangers prospect has factored into eight of Boston College’s last ten goals as a team. He is currently riding an eight-game point streak, owning a plus eight rating during that span.
Boston College dropped three spots in the U.S. College Hockey Online Division I Men’s Poll this week, though they received two first place votes. Their record is now 7-2-1 overall, and the team will take on the University of Connecticut Huskies in a pair of Hockey East contests Friday, at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and Saturday at the new Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs, Connecticut.
Noa Laba (Sophomore)
Out west, the 2022 Rangers fourth-round selection centered the top line in a pair of victories over Miami University RedHawks, scoring two goals with two assists in a 5-1 win on Friday before adding another two goals on Saturday. What was so impressive about his performance is that two of Laba’s goals this weekend were scored shorthanded. The New York Rangers draftee became the first Tiger to score two goals in consecutive games since 2019 and a shorthanded goal in back-to-back games since 2007.
Laba has now matched his point total from his freshman season in nine fewer games played, as he currently has scored six goals, five assists, and eleven points in nine games played on the year. With the Rangers organization in need of center depth, it is encouraging to see he’s a net positive on draws, as he has won 73 of 145 faceoffs on the year. Laba will look to continue his hot start and add to his numbers this weekend, as his team will host a pair of conference games against number 16 ranked Western Michigan Broncos at Ed Robson Arena.
Colorado College Tigers have a 7-3-0 record overall, and though not currently ranked, received fifty-four votes in this week’s U.S. College Hockey Online Division I Men’s Poll.
Other New York Rangers prospects competing in the NCAA whose teams are in the Top 20 rankings include wing Jaroslav Chmelar of the Providence College Friars (5), forward Brody Lamb and the Minnesota Golden Gophers (6), and defenseman Hank Kempf of the Cornell Big Red (10). Also receiving votes include University of Nebraska Omaha Mavericks defenseman Victor Mancini and captain of the Harvard Crimson Zakary Karpa. With so many prospects competing and excelling at the collegiate level, hopefully the organization will see one or more vie for a national championship during the Frozen Four tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on April 11th & 13th.
