Igor Shesterkin officially became an NHL All-Star on Thursday night. The League announced its initial rosters and the 27 year-old goaltender will be the New York Rangers representative in Sunrise, Florida on February 3 and 4.
This also makes Shesterkin the Rangers seventh goalie in history to be selected for to the All-Star Game. He now joins Chuck Rayner, Gump Worsley, Ed Giacomin, Gilles Villemure, Mike Richter, and Henrik Lundqvist to do so.
Igor Shesterkin named to 1st All Star Game
It’s been another strong season as the defending Vezina Winner makes a bid for another. On the year, he’s 18-6-5 with a GAA of 2.43 and a save percentage of .917 including one shutout.
The NHL changed the format for this season by having their hockey ops select one player from every team to make up the initial eight-man rosters for each division. The three remaining players per division (2 skaters and 1 goalie) will be decided by fans via a vote which you can access here.
“I can’t wait (for the) All Star (game),” Shesterkin said after the selection. “Now go vote for my friends.”

It’s hard to say because I believe, and I think that I’m capable, to play in the NHL next year. I I really do believe that. I’m confident in myself. I know it’s going to take a good offseason for myself to do that. … But at the same time, playing at the next level is hard and I want to really work hard this summer at being capable of playing there. I hope this time next year, I’m going back to New York from Christmas break. I’m looking forward to that time and looking forward to the training camp next year to see what happens.
