Here are the latest rumblings around Rangerstown.

Gorton Adds Veteran Defenseman

On Tuesday, the Rangers traded defenseman Steven Kampfer, along with two draft picks, to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Adam McQuaid.

This is a low-risk move by Gorton. McQuaid brings a hard-nosed style of play to the Rangers blue line, something which they haven’t had on the back end in a couple of years. The Rangers gave up a utility blue-liner in order to bring McQuaid to Broadway, a player that will be solid in the bottom pair. The one downside to this deal is that it keeps one of the young budding talents from earning a roster spot out of camp. Guys like Gilmour, Pionk, Lindgren, Hajek, even Brendan Smith who spent most of last season in Hartford, will be battling for a spot in David Quinn’s lineup. McQuaid’s contract is up at the end of the season, which means that he is likely a trade chip for Gorton come the February trade-deadline.

Baby Blueshirts Return From Traverse City

The Rangers prospects finished up the Traverse City prospects tournament in disappointing fashion, dropping the final two games to Detroit and St. Louis. 2018 roster hopefuls Lias Andersson, Filip Chytil, Libor Hajek, and Brett Howden we’re all held out of the final game of the tournament as they get set for training camp.

Kreider Discusses Blood Clots From Last Season

In speaking with Dan Rosen of NHL.com, Rangers forward Chris Kreider recounted his blood clot last season and how recovering from the injury has given him a “new lease on life.
