Rangers Roundup: Chris Drury to interview for Penguins GM job, Tony DeAngelo’s trade value, and more

Chris Drury has been a long sought after executive by many clubs. The Buffalo Sabres eyed him in their GM search, as did the Panthers recently. So there is no surprise the Penguins want him. Although the Connecticut native loves the Rangers, this is a great opportunity.

Chris Drury a prime candidate for Penguins job

TSN noted last night that three teams have granted permission to the Penguins to speak with candidates. One of those teams are the Rangers and they will let 44 year-old Chris Drury interview for the job. Pittsburgh hopes to narrow the list this week and hire a GM soon.

As for Drury, he’s done a wonderful job with the Wolf Pack. He’s stabilized them to be competitive and also developing the league’s best prospect pipeline.

Tony DeAngelo’s trade value

On the latest edition of TSN’s Insider Trading, Darren Dreger noted that Tony DeAngelo has a ton of interest. Per a source, he could be traded within days.

Pat Brisson spoke with Darren Dreger on Monday and noted that his client is at home waiting for a deal. It was revealed that the Rangers are in talks with teams interested in the 25 year-old defenseman. He was the 4th leading scorer last season for blue-liners.

The consensus is that the Rangers are willing to eat up to 50% of DeAngelo’s 4.8M cap hit. That would be quite a bargain for any team looking for an offensive right handed defenseman. Even with that, the Rangers would probably not garner more than a 2nd round pick or possibly a disgruntled player in return.

Calgary is said to be in the market for a defenseman and Sam Bennett, a center may be a trade candidate. Regardless, I expect we will officially hear the Rangers involved in trade talks for Vince Dunn soon.
