Alexandar Georgiev gets the start but what’s next for Rangers 3 goalies

Alexandar Georgiev is set to man the pipes for the New York Rangers tonight at the Garden against the Buffalo Sabres. This is Georgiev’s first start since January 21st in a loss against the Islanders. There was some thought after Igor Shesterkin’s stellar performance against Toronto that he would get the nod, but David Quinn had to find a game for Georgiev.

3 Headed Goalie Monster Rolls On

It’s been a long wait for Georgiev but getting the start against the Sabres makes sense. The 23 year old goalie sports a 2-0 record against them with a 1.50 GAA and an excellent .961 SV%. I wouldn’t call this easing him in against the likes of Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner but Buffalo is struggling overall.

Shesterkin (Newsday/Bill Mercey)

Looking ahead, Igor Shesterkin playing Sunday against the Kings is likely and then I’d expect the Rangers to turn back to Henrik Lundqvist on the road Tuesday in Winnipeg. This is going to continue to not be optimal until the Rangers move Georgiev at the trade deadline.

If the Rangers don’t, then the logical conclusion would be to send Shesterkin back down to Hartford and get ready to play in the AHL playoffs (unless the Rangers are still in the hunt).
