New York Rangers Daily: Blueshirts flip script in latest win, another NHL record set by Alex Ovechkin
It appears someone flipped a switch and informed the New York Rangers that the 2024-25 season is half over and they’d better wake up or else all Stanley Cup dreams will be dashed.
The Rangers rallied for a 5-3 win in Utah on Thursday to close out a successful 2-0-1 Western road trip. So, make it six games in a row with a point (4-0-2) matching their six-game point streak to begin the season (5-0-1), you know, before it all seemingly went to hell.
Funny how that 4-15-0 slide in November and December feels more distant by the day. Sure, the Rangers (21-20-3) are still digging themselves out of a hole and trying to get back into a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. But they’re playing with more confidence, more compete in their game and more resolve, as evidenced by erasing three one-goal deficits Thursday to secure their first win this season when trailing after two periods (1-17-1).
They jumped one spot in the Eastern Conference standings, passing the woeful Pittsburgh Penguins into 13th place. The Rangers are just four points behind the Boston Bruins for the second wild card, and New York has two games in hand. They’re five points in back of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the top wild card, and those teams meet Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Yup, things are getting interesting once again for the Rangers, who are 5-1-2 in the New Year.
