New York Rangers Daily: Jonathan Quick won’t ‘overcomplicate anything,’ Devils skid continues
The New Year begins with a clash against an old foe for the New York Rangers, when they host their Original Six rival Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.
The fresh start to 2025 for the Rangers after a 4-15-0 stumble to the finish in 2024 begins with Jonathan Quick in goal. Igor Shesterkin is on IR with an upper-body injury, so the Rangers turn to the 38-year-old, who’s resume includes three Stanley Cup championships, a Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP and 398 regular-season wins in the NHL.
As such, Quick brings a calm, steady presence, which could benefit this reeling team.
“You never want to overcomplicate anything,” Quick said Wednesday. “No matter how the season’s gone, the last five games, the last 10 games, whatever the situation is, it’s an 82-game season. If you start looking at games in the past or games in the future, you lose sight of the moment. I’ve always felt like that’s the best approach to stay in the moment, one game at a time.”
The Rangers enter their first game against the Bruins this season on a four-game losing streak. They’ve dropped seven of their past eight and are 4-15-0 in their past 19 games. The Rangers are last in the Metropolitan Division and 15th in the 16-team Eastern Conference.
