New York Rangers Daily: Trying to pick off another win, a happy Connor McDavid birthday
For the second straight game on their current road trip, the New York Rangers face an elite opponent that is coming off a shutout loss in its previous game.
Saturday in Las Vegas, the Rangers shut down the Golden Knights 2-1 after they were blanked by the Islanders two days earlier. On Tuesday, the Rangers will look for a similar script against the Colorado Avalanche, who lost their prior game 3-0 to the Winnipeg Jets.
More than anything, the Rangers want to keep the good times rolling. They’ve won two straight and are 4-1-1 in their past six games. They’re passing the eye test with better all-around play, and they’re being rewarded with points in the standings. It’s been a while since things have felt this good with this team.
Despite the positive vibes, the Rangers did drop a spot in the Eastern Conference standings Monday. The idle Blueshirts fell to 14th in the East when the Philadelphia Flyers passed them by a point with a 4-3 comeback win against the Florida Panthers.
Get used to it. The East is so tightly packed that the Rangers could be moving up or down the standings on a daily basis. They enter play still four points out of the second wild card and five points out the first wild card in the conference.
