Brody Lamb was the headliner this past weekend among New York Rangers prospects playing in the NCAA. The Minnesota Golden Gophers scored four goals in the series sweep over St. Thomas.

Lamb was moved over to left wing and was in the starting lineup for the first game Friday, skating on a line with freshman Erik Pahlsson, and 2022 St. Louis Blues first rounder Jimmy Snuggerud. The Rangers’ fourth round pick from 2021 scored his second goal of the season at 9:12 of the third period.

As you can see from the replay, Lamb fought to get himself into position for a deflection past the St. Thomas goaltender. He finished the game with two shots on goal and a +2 rating during the 7-1 win.

The junior forward was just warming up, though. Lamb recorded his first hat trick during a 6-2 victory on Saturday.

Three straight special-team goals resulted in a natural hat trick for Lamb. His first of the night came in the first period with the scored tied 1-1. Lamb put Minnesota ahead with a power-play goal when he followed a shot to the net, and put home a rebound.

In the second period, Minnesota had a two-man advantage. Lamb showcased his laser of a shot, firing a one-timer past the St. Thomas goalie for a 3-1 lead which ended up being the game-winning goal.

Less than two minutes later, Lamb completed the natural hat trick by outworking a St. Thomas defender for a rebound. The goal was his fifth of the season and fourth power-play goal through six games. His power-play scoring is tied for the Division I Men’s lead, and Lamb has already matched his output from last season.

The offense for Lamb came off five shots on goal, though he finished with a minus-1 rating. Minnesota will host Penn State University on November 1st and 2nd.

According to Broadmoor Beauties on X (formerly Twitter), junior center Noah Laba of Colorado College is a little “dinged up.” His status is day to day and the Rangers 2022 fourth-round pick should be back soon.

Freshman Ty Henricks had two shots on goal for the Western Michigan Broncos as they fell by a score of 4-2 to Boston College on Saturday night. Western Michigan is off until Nov. 8, when they travel to University of Nebraska at Omaha.

As for Boston College, the Eagles came back from an early 2-0 deficit. Sophomore Gabe Perreault set up linemate Ryan Leonard for what proved to be the game winning goal with 51 seconds remaining in the third period.

Perreault also assisted on an empty-net goal scored by Leonard. His two assist night gives him two goals and five assists for seven points in four games played on the season The Rangers top pick in 2023 had one shot on goal Saturday to go with a plus-1 rating.

Teammate Drew Fortescue, another 2023 pick, had one shot on goal. The defenseman has yet to record a point through four games, though he has filled his role as a top-pair shutdown defenseman very well to start the season. Boston College will travel to St. Cloud, Minnesota for a pair of games against St. Cloud State on Nov. 1 and 2.

EJ Emery, the first-round pick by the Rangers this past June, was in the starting lineup for both games of the weekend series for North Dakota Fighting Hawks against Boston University. The freshman was on the right side of the top defensive pairing. Emery had one shot on goal and one blocked shot both nights, with a roughing minor coming in the second period of the contest Friday. The two teams split the series, North Dakota winning 7-2 on Friday, and Boston University coming away with a 4-3 win Saturday. North Dakota will have another big test on the road against Cornell University on Nov. 1 and 2.

As for Cornell, senior defenseman and assistant captain Hank Kempf had one shot on goal, and was minus-2 in an exhibition win against the University of Toronto. Known mostly for his defensive skills, Kempf will need to add offense to his game, as he only has two goals in 98 career NCAA games if he wants to earn an entry-level contract with the Rangers.

Northern Michigan University lost their third straight game after falling 3-1 to Arizona State on Friday, before being shut out 2-0 Saturday. Freshman defeseman Rasmus Larsson had one shot on goal and two blocked shots in the first game of the series. In the second game, the fifth rounder from 2023 recorded three shots on goal and three blocked shots. He was called for a roughing penalty in the first period.
