Rangers vs. Hurricanes: schedule, results, TV info for 2nd-round playoff series

Dave Maloney breaks down the biggest factors of Rangers vs Hurricanes playoff series

Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

The second-round Stanley Cup Playoff series between the New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes has been long expected and highly anticipated for quite some time. The top two teams in the Metropolitan Division — and many would argue, the entire NHL — will meet for the second time in the past three postseasons, with the winner moving on to the Eastern Conference Final.

The Rangers arrived here after sweeping the Washington Capitals in the first round. The Hurricanes finished off the Islanders in five games.

One of these two Metro teams has been in the conference final in three of the past six seasons. The Rangers advanced to the third round in 2022 after defeating the Hurricanes in seven games. The Hurricanes played in the conference final in 2019 and 2023.

The Rangers won the season series against the Hurricanes in 2023-24, taking two of three games. However, the Hurricanes outscored the Rangers 7-4 in the series. They’ve met twice in the postseason (2020 and 2022) and each team won one series.

New York and Carolina appear to be an equal match, the Rangers three points better in the regular season, and either team capable of edging the other on any given night.

Simply, it should be an incredible series pitting two of the League’s best. And it gets underway on Sunday, May 5.
