Nils Lundkvist & Olof Lindbom called up for Sweden u20
The Swedish u20 team will play in Plymouth at the end of July and in early August when they take on Canada, Finland and the United States. 2 New York Rangers prospects were called up to the team, according to Hockeysverige.
Olof Lindbom, the 18 year old goalie who was picked in the 2nd round in 2018, see his strong finish to the season rewarded with a call up after battling injuries early on. After a season with Stockholm-based Djurgårdens IF he has now signed a contract with Mora IK in the Allsvenskan. Lindbom will play professional hockey this upcoming season.
Nils Lundkvist is the other who was called up and it should come as no surprise. The 18-year old right-handed defenseman had a stellar season in Sweden. He led all u20 defenseman in points, at the age of 18. Lundkvist is also ranked 9th all-time in games played by an u19 defenseman in the SHL since its inception in 1975.
For Lundkvist, this means an even busier summer than initially anticipated. As reported last week, he is flying to New York to join Rangers prospect camp, and was planning on flying back to Sweden at the end of the month. That may have to wait now, extending his North American trip. LuleÃ¥’s season starts on August 29th when they take on the German team Augsburger Panther in the Champions Hockey League.
