Rangers chances of landing John Tavares have gone up a notch

If you take what hockey insiders like Darren Dreger say as gospel, then this latest tidbit is great news for the Rangers and the rest of the NHL.

Ship Has Sailed for the Islanders

Today, Dreger was discussing John Tavares re-signing with the Islanders and said:

“I feel, and this is just my sense – educated to some degree, based on conversations that I’ve had over the past number of months – if John Tavares was going to sign with the New York Islanders, why wouldn’t he have signed by now. Was he expecting change at some level – management, coaching, any of that – probably not.” -via Chris Nichols

He went on to discuss the issues of not having a defined home arena and the fact that Garth Snow’s changes haven’t brought the success Tavares would be looking for. Ultimately it led Dreger to state:

“So I think that more or less the ship has sailed. Wouldn’t be jaw-dropped shocked if Tavares, by default, decided to stay, but I’m thinking that some of the teams I’ve already mentioned – and I’m sure there are others on his list as well – at this stage seem a little bit more intriguing to him.” – via Chris Nichols

Dreger also went on to mention several suitors like Buffalo, Nashville, Vegas and San Jose. Oddly he left out the Rangers, but it’s more of an oversight than taking the Blueshirts out of the mix.
