Here is our recap of the Rangers 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames.

Young Blood. Neil Pionk and John Gilmour both made their NHL debuts tonight with Brendan Smith being sent to Hartford and Ryan McDonagh out with an upper-body injury. While one of the Calgary goals went off of Pionk’s skate, he played pretty well in his first appearance in which he had 18:44 of ice time and a +1 rating. Gilmour wasn’t too far behind with 17:11. Pionk got the Broadway hat.

Rick Nash. Nash continues to elevate his trade value with excellent 2-way playing. He also scored a goal in the third period to tie the game at 3-3. This marked his 8th goal in the last 11 games, and his 17th on the season. He also had a breakaway opportunity, but went wide of the net.

Henrik Lundqvist. The day started out with an inflammatory pre-game presser by AV when he claimed that the Rangers losses were due to inconsistent goaltending. To really drive home the point, he benched Hank in favor of starting Pavelec tonight, but Hank had the last word. He came out on fire, too, presumably already peeved by Vigneault’s statements in this display of saltiness at the refs:

All in all, Lundqvist made 28 saves on the night after taking over in the 2nd period after Pavelec suffered a knee injury in the 1st period. Zucc showed Hank his love after the Rangers snapped their four-game losing streak:

Other Notes. McDonagh is currently listed as day-to-day, but is not expected to make the next short road trip. AV really riled up fans, and probably Hank too when he said that the Rangers’ main problem was inconsistent goaltending. Pavelec is out with a knee injury, and it’s unclear how serious it is. Expect a call-up today to replace him for the time being, and expect Hank to take more of a workload in Pavelec’s absence.
