Rangers Go To Shootout Once Again…Get Two Points

Here is or recap of the New York Rangers shootout victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

Henrik Lundqvist

To begin the season, I was seeing a different Henrik Lundqvist than everyone else. Lundqvist has been stellar all season and has been the sole reason why the team finds themselves in playoff contention. Hank saved 37 shots on 38 attempts and of course had some flair for the dramatic as well. Another game that goes to overtime and a shootout for the Rangers. Another game that is quite simply stolen by the King.

Jimmy Vesey

The second year forward has grown quite a bit as a player, even if the numbers may not show the impact Vesey has had this season. Yet, there have been many times in which no. 26 makes a big play, whether offensively or defensively, to help the team. And this one was no different.

This game tying goal was bound to happen with the way Vesey flew around the ice. It came at a time where the Rangers didn’t press and Vesey simply took over the game.

Extra! Extra!

The New York Rangers have been in the giving mood lately because in five of the last seven games, they have given fans free hockey, with four of them going to the shootout. As the season continues, the extra period/shootouts eventually will become a factor. If the team is expecting to play past early April, they must improve their ROW, Regulation & Overtime Wins, which is the tiebreaker in the standings.

The game winning goal comes from Mika Zibanejad as he was the only scorer in the shootout.

Other notes

The team is relying too much on their solid goaltending. The strategy has paid off as of late but if Lundqvist or Pavelec have an off night, this team doesn’t stand a chance. They must play a much more complete game in order to avoid a slump like the one they had at the start of the season.
