Rangers have offer from Flames for Zuccarello?

NY Rangers

The biggest hockey rumor site, Hockey Buzz just posted that the Rangers are mulling an offer for Mats Zuccarello.

Per Eklund, it is from the Calgary Flames and ambiguously ends there.

Let’s Talk about Mats Zuccarello

Since last season’s trade deadline, Zuccarello has been mentioned as a goner. After the rebuild was announced, and his status as a pending UFA this season the Rangers have been fielding offers. People I’ve spoken too that are close to Zuccarello say there were suitors out west very interested in acquiring him last year.

Apparently, Jeff Gorton wasn’t getting what he wanted so he decided to hold on to him. Fast forward to this year and Gorton was hoping to get a similar package as he did for rental, Rick Nash. He still may get a decent return, but Zuccarello’s struggles make it unlikely.

“It’s going to be interesting to watch what Jeff Gorton does moving forward here. We’ve heard the names who are out there – the likes of Zuccarello, Hayes is another one. I think that you could probably put half-a-dozen, maybe as many as 10 players on a trade list, and Gorton would consider moving those pieces.”

Mats Zuccarello has been a fan favorite and one of the Rangers better players for 8 years. He deserves better than this but Hockey is ultimately a business.

Gorton IS going to trade him, of that I’m sure. He needs to start taking offers now and open the playing field before the deadline. If he waits until that time, other players could become available and Zuccarello’s value could drop even further than it has so far.
