Rangers Practice Report: Buchnevich Scratched Against Flyers

As the Rangers get set to face the Philadelphia Flyers tonight, head coach David Quinn told the media that Pavel Buchnevich will be scratched, and that the team will play seven defensemen tonight against their division rivals.

Quinn said he’s not really frustrated with Buchnevich because he’s still young and he has bad habits that are hard to break. He said sometimes players need to regress before they progress and Buchnevich might be in that situation.

Following a nine-day hiatus, Buchnevich being scratched is not a good sign. He is clearly in David Quinn’s doghouse and when you consider that Buchnevich had his issues staying in Alain Vigneault’s lineup, it would appear that the problems lie within Buchnevich. Perhaps he is still having troubles adjusting to the NHL style of play, though it has been three years since he came over from the KHL. Regardless of why this is all happening, Buchnevich better figure it out ASAP if he plans on being a part of the Rangers future.
