Rangers Re-Sign Goalie Marek Mazanec

According to CapFriendly, the first official signing of the offseason by the New York Rangers is re-signing goaltender Marek Mazanec to a one-year, two-way deal worth $650,000. Prior to the re-signing, the goalie was a restricted free agent.

Marek Mazanec joined the organization in December of last season, playing in 20 games with the Wolf Pack. He went 11-6-1 with a save percentage of .905, and a GAA of 2.97. The experienced goalie could have played more games, but became injured in the second half of the season. He returned late in the season and played well.

As of now, the signed goalies in the organization are Henrik Lundqvist, Alexandar Georgiev, Marek Mazanec, Chris Nell, and Brandon Halverson. Ondrej Pavalec is the only unsigned goalie as he is an unrestricted free agent come July 1.

Will Alexandar Georgiev get the backup spot for New York? The plans for the Rangers are still undetermined so early into the offseason with one move done. Regardless, on the Wolf Pack’s end, Alexandar Georgiev or Marek Mazanec will fit great for the upcoming season in the crease. The backup position in Hartford will be interesting to see which goalie claims it. Another goalie will spend time in the ECHL with Maine. Last season, Brandon Halverson spent majority of the season with Greenville.
