The Rangers announced today that they have signed first-round draft pick Lias Andersson to a three-year, entry-level contract

Andersson joins the Blueshirts from HV71 in the Swedish Hockey League where as an 18-year-old, he put up 19 points in 42 games. Among junior players (under 20 years of age) in the SHL, he led the league in plus/minus and was tied for second in points. In the SHL playoffs, he contributed four goals and an assist to help lead HV71 to the Le Mat Trophy as SHL champions.

Andersson has also represented his country in IIHF competitions. At the 2016 IIHF World Under-18 Junior Championships in the United States, Andersson put up five goals and four assists to help lead Sweden to a silver medal.

Andersson will be coming into training camp looking to earn a roster spot with the Rangers. He wouldn’t be anything more than the fourth line center, but if he can come in and play like his fellow countryman, and former Ranger Oscar Lindberg, the Rangers will be in a very good place next season.
