Rick Tocchet had second interview for Rangers head coaching job
Rick Tocchet has reportedly had a second interview with Chris Drury for the New York Rangers vacant head coach position. According to John Gambadoro, a Phoenix sports radio host, it took place yesterday.
Rick Tocchet has second interview with Rangers
Record: 178-200-60
The 57 year-old former NHL power forward took the reins as head coach of the Coyotes back in the 2017-2018 season. He is widely considered an up and coming coach who knows how to relate to his players. Tocchet interviewed with the Rangers last week on Tuesday per Gambadoro and has a good chance to land the job. He’s also spoken with the Seattle Kraken and Buffalo Sabres.
Pierre LeBrun also noted that Tocchet has interviewed with four teams, three have been noted above and he also spoke with the Blue Jackets. It seems like Tocchet along with Gallant will most certainly be back behind an NHL bench next season.
Update:
Chris Drury conducting thorough process
The New York Rangers are still interviewing candidates for their vacant head coaching position. Last week I received a small update on the Rangers coaching search. We know of two interviews that took place, Gerard Gallant and Rick Tocchet with more expected. From what I could gather, there is no urgency on the part of the Rangers to hire a coach. This will be a thorough and detailed process that Chris Drury will follow.
If this report from Gambadoro is confirmed, that would represent the first known coach to have a second interview with team. Information is scarce as to whom else has had an official interview, but rumors suggest that John Tortorella, Patrick Roy, and Bob Hartley have at least had a call but not formal interviews.
