So much for Cam Talbot being traded! Carl Hagelin has become the 1st cap casualty for the NY Rangers this summer.

In return the Rangers acquire Emerson Etem, a 23 year old 6’1″ winger with decent size. He scored 5 goals and 10 points in 45 games last year along with 3 playoff goals in 12 games. Here is a scouting report on him.

[su_quote cite=”Hockey’s Future” url=”https://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/emerson_etem/”]Etem has an unorthodox skating style but it sure gets him around the ice quickly. He can make plays at high speeds, thanks in large part to the lightning-quick release on his lethally accurate shot. He courted a goal-per-game in his final junior season, proving to be one of the most explosive players in all the CHL. Etem has also proven an effective penalty killer that poses a constant threat to generate a shorthanded goal. He needs to improve his play without the puck and continue to develop his physique.[/su_quote]

Again, this is a cap move and one the Rangers were cornered to make.

Rangers selected LW Ryan Gropp at 41.
